Description
Join me, Alison Lee, your host at craftcast.com, along with jewelry artist Rachel Shimpock and learn how to get started with electroplating almost anything!
This is a cool technique that looks like a science experiment but with really interesting creative results.
Here is the principle behind the magic:
Electroforming is based on the fact that electrical current flows from the positive anode (donor copper) towards the negative cathode (object to be plated). When an electrical current is passed from the anode (+), through the electrolyte solution, the anode metal (+) slowly dissolves in the bath and becomes free metal that is attracted to the object that is to be plated (-).
But not to worry about the principle, because Rachel will show you exactly what you need to know to get started electroforming on your own. Ms. Shimpock will show you step-by-step how to set up your own electroforming station plus how to prep, pick and plate your pieces for great results. Rachel will work with copper as the main electroforming material but as a bonus will show how to make a pen plater that can plate silver and flat back on metal surfaces.
Get ready to feel a bit like “MacGyver” and learn this “science class” technique that will expand your creative skills and get your started on learning something really fun.
