Matthieu Cheminee

Originally from France, Matthieu moved to New Mexico at the age of 19. He fell in love with the Native American art, and especially with the Hopi, Zuni and Navajo jewellery. Matthieu started watching and learning from the native silversmiths over a period of 6 years, all the while doing photography. In 1995, he moved to Paris where he worked as a photographer for a year before moving to Mali in West Africa. There he worked for different organizations as a photographer when he met Touareg and Bambara jewellers who re-ignited his passion for jewellery. After working with them for 2 years, exchanging techniques, he then moved to Canada, where he decided to perfect his skills by going to a jewellery making school for a period of 18 months to receive a more classical and technical view of the trade
