Beryl Maddalena, aka The Fiber Goddess, introduced her Thursday fiber class to playing with this old stand by, bleeding tissue paper!
I found that the pigment saturation in each piece of tissue is enough to dye fabric.
Starting with an old white cotton sheet, I first sprayed water to lightly saturate.
Then I placed torn pieces of tissue on the sheet and misted with more water. The dye quickly bled leaving great color patterns reflecting how the tissue was plopped down. Crinkling, folding, and general mushing around of the wet tissue, resulted in lots of fun shapes and surprises (wearing protective gloves is highly recommended here).
Next, I let the sheet totally dry. Then I took my rotary cutter and cut the sheet into lots of one and two inch strips.
Then I ironed Wonder Under onto the back of each strip.
I wove the pieces together, using the basic under over pattern.
I ironed the whole thing to a back sheet.
Last step, I coated the piece with two coats of polymer medium matte.
ps. to purchase tissue check out your local Dollar Store!

These mixed media pieces that you are doing are just delicious. Thank you for showing us the techniques so we can try this ourselves. You rock!
