It’s all about alignment…

May 13, 2009

dominoes

It’s all about alignment.

That’s my focus these days.

I think it is true that the more we “feel” in alignment,
the happier we are.

And then, we are happier because
we are aligned with what we were meant to be doing.

Easy, right?

Here is the dictionary definition of alignment that I like:
an arrangement of groups or forces in relation to one another

Leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

When I was working as an art director on photo shoots, unknowing visitors would ask me what an art director actually did.

Considering that much of my time was spent chatting with the crew, and enjoying the catered table of goodies, I could see the reason for their confusion.

My best answer was always:
“Go to a photo shoot without an art director,
and see what happens.”

It was all about keeping the groups alignment.

Keeping it all on track.

Reflecting on this past Monday nights online class with Tim McCreight, alignment is what came up for me.

I had an “Ah Ha”  moment when Tim talked about how it wasn’t the designated name of the tool that mattered but what the tool could accomplish, the “essence” of the tool sort of speak, the alignment of that tool with the metal.

I’m looking at all my tools differently now.

How do they want to align with their purpose,
or like the dictionary definition:

an arrangement of groups or forces in relation to one another

hmmmmmmm

Talking with Timothy Adam!

Today I talk with Timothy Adam!

I came across Tim’s blog and loved his enthusiasm for both making his jewelry and sharing his social marketing skills.

“I am a self taught metal artist, and a certified Mig welder. I started designing modern metal furniture in 2004. I built my first piece in Baltimore with my sister-in-law who is a furniture designer. I found my passion in metal and kept on designing and building. I struggled for 4 years to make a name in local galleries in the Grand Rapids Michigan area. A friend of mine introduced me to Etsy in February of 2007, and it changed my business. I started creating a jewelry line and have not turned back. In November of 2007 I had to quit my full time job cause my passion was becoming a dream come true! I am now selling all over the world through my Etsy shop. I also have wholesale accounts around the country with galleries, museums and salons.”

An Eye for Design

May 6, 2009

design eye

An eye for design.

What does that mean exactly, and how do we get one?

This is one of my favorite subjects.

I find it a fascinating self-discovery process.

How do we nurture our ability to do “good design”, or create a “form that flows and satisfies?”

I love when I recognize an artist’s work by “knowing their style.”

The design process is such an interesting discussion…

Live Online,
Monday night, May 11th, at 8PM EST,
Tim McCreight will share with us his process.

I’m there.

Butt in the chair…

May 4, 2009

Thank you everyone for your support through some intense weeks here at the CRAFTCAST studio.

As you know, my favorite 4 legged friend passed on. That event was immediately followed by packing up and moving from a home for the past 27 years.

Needless to say, lots of completions, memories, laughing, crying and long exhausting days.

I was SOOOO fortunate to have the support of amazing, true blue friends with the ability to give undying support and encouragement!
(as well as help with packing…lol)

So, I am happy to finally welcome myself back to work here in the CRAFTCAST studio!

A new show will go up this week with my guest, Tim Adams. (wait till you hear this guy!!!)

And DO NOT miss the upcoming online class with Tim McCreight!!!

Thank you again for all your support and concern.

… it feels good to be back.
