I’m trying to get grounded.
It’s going slowly.
Coming home from a whirl wind trip to Las Vegas has my head still chi-chinging like a slot machine.
A simple case of emotion and sensory overload. (all good)
So… I’m off for a walk at Hook Mountain. Clear my head. Lots of deep breaths. I’m fortunate to live next store to such a grand park!
Off I go.
See you tomorrow.

(I can hardly wait to share all the new classes I’ve been putting together.)

It’s a sunny Monday morning, and even though the thermometer is clearly broken!!!, I feel spring in the air.
I found this teapot at one of my favorite hunting grounds, and bought two more as gifts. It makes me smile while brewing a pot.
When I was 3, my Nannie from Ireland, sat me down in her kitchen and taught me how to knit, as well as how to make a proper cup of tea. She showed me how to hold the needles and yarn, and just how much milk and sugar a full teacup needed.
I keep the ritual alive to this day, ‘throwing’ my yarn just like she taught me, and making my tea, with the same amount of milk and sugar.
Here’s to all the Nannies who taught us crafting and a proper cup of tea!

I’ve been spending lots of time on the computer in my virtual word, recording CRAFTCAST™ interviews, and setting up and producing online MasterClasses, and I love every bit of it…
But sometimes I find myself drawn to the jewelry bench, feeling the urge to make something with my hands.
So, the other day I decided to craft a pair of earrings, with my total intent being to “make something pretty”.
I’m very happy with the results. I took some of my 22kt gold bits and scraps, melted it all together, and pulled my own wire.
These 2 inch hoops started as 16g round wire, flattening and texturing on my anvil.
I added a good sized pearl to each hoop, attached with an gold head pin I created with 20g wire.
I haven’t worn hoops in years, and these are really fun to wear.
(I think this weekend I might try another variation.)
Have a great weekend. Think SPRING!

Yesterday’s show with Patti Brady, inspired me to play with some acrylic products.
Everything that was out on my table from other projects was adhered to a canvas using polymer medium.
Foils, old cellophane, copper circles, glitter, fusible stabilizer, and some chalk were a few of the bits and pieces.
After adding an item and coating with some polymer, I covered it with parchment paper and pressed with an iron.
Then more polymer and more stuff and another touch with the iron.
I’m addicted to creating texture and objects with depth. (A little glitter is nice too!)
Don’t know where this will lead, and I like that!

Today I talk with artist and author, Patti Brady.
Patti Brady is the Working Artist Program Director for Golden Artist Colors. She has developed curriculum for acrylic classes for artists and art educators.
Ms. Brady explains how to use those confusing containers of acrylic additives that line the aisles of your favorite fine art supplies store, plus lots of ideas of ways to play, not paint, with acrylics!
A must have for how-to is her new workbook:
Rethinking Acrylic: Radical Solutions For Exploiting The World’s Most Versatile Medium
“I am not interested in teaching anyone “how to paint”. There are so many great teachers that have that particular skill. I’m interested in opening doors for exploration, for the artist to get a peek inside the options and for that artist to take these discoveries home, and make paintings.”

Last Thursday was the final class with my fiber group.
Beryl, aka the fiber goddess, treated us all to lunch and a play date at her charming home.
After a wonderful ladies lunch, Ms. B. showed us how to take a yard of cotton cording and wire, and wrap it with strips of material or ribbon, winding thread tightly round to hold everything in place.
That created are own personal yard long pipe cleaner of sorts.
Then we all started to embellish with adding on bits and pieces and buttons and beads and whatever….
I think mine reflects my life, twisting and turning, with treasures and shiny objects peaking up everywhere!

I’m off to Pearl Paint.
I need a fix.
After talking with Patti Brady, (show will be up on Saturday), I’ve been on a mission.
You know what I’m taking about…the need to play around with a new material.
Patti shed lots of “how-to light” on some products that always appealed to me, but were a total mystery.
So, I’m off.
Come back Saturday to listen to my talk with Ms. Brady.
(Make sure to leave some time for a supply excursion!)

I love candy, the colors, the wrappers, the textures, what can I tell you. Looks good, tastes good!
This site is both, Amy Atlas Events.
I get inspired taking a few minutes to look through the eye candy section.
It actually satisfies my sweet tooth.
