Talking with The Yarn Harlot!

June 30, 2008

Today I talk with Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, also know as the Yarn Harlot.

Stephanie had me laughing from the get-go. Who knew there was so much to learn about life from some needles and a ball of yarn!

Her latest book, Things I Learned from Knitting…Whether I Wanted To or Not, is guaranteed to give you the giggles.

“Knitting is still trying to teach me that the knitting muses have an excellent , if cruel, sense of humor.”

Eye Spy #19

June 27, 2008

This I got for free.

I swore I wouldn’t lug home things that need rust removal and painting… geez.

This was just too good to pass up. It’s perfect for organizing all the fine silver and sterling silver pieces I sell to students in class.

So far I’ve resisted sanding and painting, just cleaned it up some.

My friend Joy swears it is fine the way it is. She also said, ” You know you won’t be able to JUST paint it. It will have to be decoupaged or something.”

Us creative types know each other so well. For now, I think it’s fine the way it is… right?

Me and My WiFi

June 26, 2008

My BFF, Susan Lomuto, has updated the look of her daily blog, and changed the name to a more befitting “Daily Art Muse”.
Warning! Addicting!

we

Don’t cha just love the internet!

The digital medium and all the tools and applications are a real comfort zone for me. Panic does set it when I don’t have a strong WiFi signal and can’t post to this blog,Twitter what I’m currently doing, upload a new CRAFTCAST show, or check my email. It is a lifeline for sure.

I will be waiting in line somewhere to get the new iPhone on July 11th. That little piece of heaven will make it possible to do even more online when not at home at the mother ship! LOL.

It’s not that I am just a techno junkie, I love what is possible with all the gadgets and equipment, and that is, I get to communicate, share, laugh, commiserate and be inspired by people who are passionate about the same things as me, all around the world!

That being said, I’m spending the day in my studio, playing with fine silver and copper. I’ll be cutting, stitching, riveting, and experimenting with a patina formula.
There won’t be a mouse in sight!

Watercolor Basics

June 25, 2008

Artist and friend, Beverly Colgan, volunteered to teach a group of us a beginning class on the art of watercolor painting. We gathered the other morning for 2 hours with our flower subjects in hand, and Bev walked us through the basics to get us all going.

The color pigments made me swoon, and creating a ‘color wash’ is extremely satisfying!

Everyone had a great time, plus gained more appreciation of the art itself.

Coffee Art

Photography was my first ‘creative outlet’ love.

I went to a college called Art Center, a dream come true, majoring in commercial photography. Now the major is called photography and imaging. I’d like to go back and study some more!

Even though I gave up being a photographer many years ago to become an art director, I have been seduced back. I find myself picking up a camera on a daily basis and recording what I find visually exciting.

I think morning rituals and coffee cups make for some interesting still life studies. It’s a visual journal of sorts, or maybe just my version of ‘imaging’.

Talking with Margi Deeb!

June 23, 2008

Today I talk with Margie Deeb.

Margie’s passion for color and movement is very clear. While talking with Margie, I learned a lot about my own color palette choices. I think you will have some ‘ah ha’ moments as well.

In addition to her work in beads, oils, watercolor and charcoal, she is also a talented musician.

Another wonderful, ‘colorful’ guest!

Eye Spy #18

June 20, 2008

A partridge settles in on a pear tree that wraps around this Majolica sugar bowl. It’s a copy of the real thing, but still visually festive when setting the table outside for ice tea and sweets. It was another one of my finds from the Historical Society’s tag sale.

I am going to attempt making some petite fours to complete the whole tea party setting.

Summertime brings out the ‘old fashion country girl’ part of me!
Price: 25 cents

Have a glorious weekend!

More studio clean-up

June 19, 2008

I’m on a roll. Sometimes you need to put all your toys back where they belong. Makes it much easier to create when you can find what you’re looking for.

So I’m ready for summer session metal working classes to begin. Here we go!

Studio Make-Over

June 18, 2008

It was time to organize.

All the art supplies were getting out of hand. Things were piling up, and getting lost under this and that, and my recording studio room was caving in on me!

So….I found some shelving that had been left for trash and my need to recycle took over. I lugged the pieces home, sanded and painted and reassembled. (not fun at all!)

Now I have a space where I can breath, plus find what I’m looking for with ease!

I love a good make-over!
