Eye Spy #15

May 30, 2008

I love this whimsical wire art, and think it’s perfect for little visual surprises outside in the garden. I found a pitcher a few months ago and was thrilled to find this high heel shoe in a newly discovered Goodwill.

Starting a new collection is always fun for me! This addition was $2.00

That was Fun!

May 29, 2008

Last night was the launching of CRAFTCAST™’s Master Class online workshop, narrated by yours truly, and presented by Seth Savarick.

I have to say it pushed my techno abilities to new places. With 2 laptops in front of me, one for each hand, 25 people ’sat’ in a virtual classroom by either phone or computer, and joined in as Seth presented his workshop called “From Imitation to Inspiration”.

After the presentation there was a question and answer time, where participants could type in questions on their computer, or speak up if they were connected by phone. At one point power went out at Mr. Savarick’s California home, allowing for an unplanned bathroom break while “technical difficulties” were righted.

Oh, I love a live event!
(Glad for my ‘quick-thinking’ training learned from working behind the scenes at Radio City Music Hall)

More online workshops and ‘mentoring soirees ‘ are planned starting mid June, so stay tuned for details about registering.

Downloads of last night’s event will be available for purchase in the near future.

I want to THANK YOU all of you again for you support and encouragement.

‘See’ you in class soon!

Dyeing and Stenciling

May 28, 2008

Beryl Magdalena’s class is always inspiring.
(I call her the ‘fiber goddess‘)

I started with a piece of white linen. Then I embellished with fabric paint, stenciling and crayon rubbing. I used the inexpensive FOLK ART fabric paint from AC Moore, and stencils I had from various other projects. I even used a few sponge stamps. The rubbings were done with good old fashion Crayola crayons, putting random bits and pieces of metal underneath the linen and rubbing with a crayon on top.

So much fun!

Maybe I’ll try making another skirt with the finished piece!
Don’t forget tonight is the very first Master Class!
Still time to sign up!

See you there!

Eye Spy #13

May 23, 2008

My new thing to collect are teacups!

I love English Bone China, with a floral motif of some kind. This one I found in my local thrift store for $2.00. It felt and looked like it was worth much more. (I actually saw one online for $45.) They are so satisfying to look at. I think of them as little floral jewels.

The plan is to have a garden tea party once I have enough cups. Oh a ‘grand cake Nora’ event in the making.

Favorite New Tool!

May 22, 2008

I’ve been working on these earrings, and wanted to texturize the surface of the fine silver. I tried a few things with no real success and then I found this little hammer by Tim Holtz.

I love the results.

The hammer tops screw on, so you actually have 4 different hammer tops to choose from. (I used them all)

Love finding a new tool!

Serger Success!

May 21, 2008

Finished the skirt!

I love when I figure out how to use a new tool or machine. I had an idea to finish the hem of the skirt with the serger, letting the decorative edge show. After experimenting, I got the result I wanted. I used 3 gold stretchy nylon thread spools and set the all the dials at 4 and the side dial at R.
(i have a euro-pro serger)

Felted Clutch Bag

May 20, 2008

This bag is a combo platter of ideas.

I knitted a big rectangle, about 12 inches by 22 inches. I used really juicy, shiny and sparkly yarns. (The main yarn has to be 100 percent wool or it won’t felt.)

I put the finished rectangle in the washing machine with some old jeans and a little detergent and washed away until the piece was approximately 8 inches by 18 inches. (You need a top loading machine for this so you can keep checking on the progress) I folded the finished piece in thirds and sewed up the 2 sides, like an envelope. The finishing touch is a piece of fancy jute cord attached underneath on the inside and long enough to go around the finished bag 2 times. I knotted a big resin bead on the end of the cord. The weight of the bead keeps the bag flap closed.

I think I will make some bigger ones to use as pillows!

PS. Felting hides ALL mistakes in knitting!
