I have crocheting on the brain. This pitcher looked like crocheted wire to me, so it was the perfect find. I’m excited to get going in the garden. I was out cleaning up my back yard, and of course a few random snowflakes came down. (ok, so I’m jumping the gun.) I have been drooling over the new White Flower Farm catalog, and making my ‘visual’ plans. I know this pitcher will make a great garden still life with something green and flowering, all for $1.50!
Counting the days…
Happy Weekend!

I went on a field trip yesterday to Stokes Farm. I have been buying from them for years at the Union Square Market in Manhattan. What a visual treat to see where it all starts. Stokes Farm has been family owned and operated farm for 6 generations. (i don’t even know 6 generations of my family!) Ron Binaghi, the current family member in charge, gave us a tour of the green houses, and told lots of informative planting stories. He also filled us in on some “farming politics” in the state of NJ. (there is nowhere to hide from politics!) The geranium hot house had approximately 9000 plants! Hanging baskets were everywhere, and the smell and site of all that green ready to bloom was a total high! I will be going back in just a few weeks to shop vigorously!

Millions are being affected by Oprah’s on-line workshop with Eckhart Tolle, author of “A New Earth.” What an amazing time for all of us. I am deeply moved and also extremely comforted by his teachings. It is hard for me to let go of old thoughts and habits, even though I know, they are as outdated for my life as dial-up internet. I am sure, like many of you, that it is through the ‘doing’ of art that I find my way on this path called life. When circumstances get challenging, ‘making art’ is there to lend it’s support. The community, around the world, of like-minded ‘art makers’ is a most profound source of inspiration and grounding energy. For that I am extremely grateful. xox

I am consumed and obsessed with flowers! I know it’s even more intense right after the ‘greydoom’ of winter. Seeing anything in bud or sticking it’s nose up from the ground, makes me feel excited, like seeing an old friend you haven’t seen for sometime.
Last week, the brilliant Ms. Beryl Maddalena, showed us how to felt flowers with colored roving in her Free Form Crochet class. She had bags of roving, dyed in intense, juicy colors, to choose from. We learned how to separate the fibers into wisps and then layer them to create the basic flower shape. The felted process took place between pieces of bubble wrap and like magic, a piece of colored felt, to mold into shape, bloomed in front of our eyes. Oh my. I can now start my garden early!
Here are a few of my specimens:

Today I talk with mixed media/ polymer clay artist and owner of design studio Zingaro, Dayle Doroshow.
Dayle shares with me her method for getting those “creative sparks” flying in the studio.
The inspirations of the past ignite my imagination to create art in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Dorothy had it right when she said, “There’s no place like home.”
This simple 6 x 4 inch embroidery conjures up such sweetness to me. It’s just ten different thread colors, and a few hundred little X’s, and yet an emotion is stirred.
I couldn’t resist, and made the $5 purchase. Worth every penny.
Have a fabulous first weekend of SPRING! I will be going to the The Orchid Show at the Bronx Botanical Garden with camera in hand!
Don’t miss this weeks talk with Seth Savarick! (Thanks for all your feedback, and glad you enjoyed.)

What are you doing at 2AM?
I am hooked,(no pun intended) on free form crochet and find myself creating way into the night! This fiber is covered with different fabric paints, and then crocheted with wire and beads on each end. I’m passionate about this color. I would describe it as blood orange sherbet with a little gold leaf. Sounds like dessert to me!

Here are some visuals from my vision board creating experience.
I trusted my intuitive spirit to lead the way on this one. I do recommend the process. It’s interesting what happens when you spend some actual scheduled time thinking about your life. Horses made lots of appearances on my board. I realized how much I missed riding since shoulder surgery and what that added to my life. So… yesterday I stopped at a new barn and started scoping it out. I plan on being ‘back in the saddle’ again soon!

People have been asking me what kind of digital camera I use. So here it is: Olympus Evolt E510.
I went to college for photography and have owned many different camera brands and formats, and this digital SLR gets 4 stars from me.
The kit comes with 2 additional lens, both zooms, that cover wide angle to telephoto. I substituted the lens that normally comes with the camera for a 50mm Macro lens.
I love being able to get R E A L close-in on my subject! This macro lens is amazing for photographing small objects, like details on jewelry, or focusing in on one petal of a flower. The camera also has an image stabilizer which helps keep it all in focus without using a tripod, plus a Dust Reduction System that works like magic. I am still learning the camera, it comes with one of those thick manuals, but right out of the box, I was able to start taking pictures. So, there it is. Check out the links and let me know what you think.
