I’m back!
The holidays were wonderful, and it feels good to get back to work!
Listening to today’s guest is a great way to start the new year. I loved chatting with author Diane Trout, and got inspired to start my own Art Journal. (check out these great pens I found while snooping around) Also, Diane is featured this month in Cloth, Paper, Scissors, with an article called Color Wheel Journal Quilt: a mixed media approach.
New books and holiday stories to share, plus some piano music by musician, Jon Schmidt.
Happy Beginning of an Exciting, Adventurous, and Creative New Year!

Another really cool LIVE class here at the CRAFTCAST studio:
“How to Make Beach Pebbles from Polymer Clay”
with Cynthia Tinapple
Wednesday December 2, 2009 8pm EST

above: Some of Cynthia’s poIymer pebbles used in a fab necklace
I’ve been dying to learn how to make these little darlings, so I was thrilled when Ms. Tinapple, from Polymer Clay Daily agreed to give a LIVE class, here through the CRAFTCAST studio.
I’m always collecting great pebbles and stones to hopefully one day add into jewelry designs.Drilling holes in these bits and pieces is always a challenge. (sometimes it works and sometimes…well..)
So… polymer clay replicas sounds like the ticket!
Ms. Tinapple has been working on her own style and formula for years and is going to share it with all of us!!!
I’ve never really been interested to play with polymer clay, but this has me ready to pull out my polymer supplies stashed away somewhere in the studio with new enthusiasm!

I’ve been fascinated with tube settings for sometime now,
so I was very excited to have my dear friend Liz give me a one-on-one demo!
You can check out Tim McCreight’s book, The Complete Metalsmith, or the quickie graphic tutorial in the 2010 Rio Grande Gem and Findings Catalog (pg. 678) for some how-to information.
This is a slab of stone I cut and polished, and then drilled a hole for a 4mm faceted CZ that I set in sterling silver heavy tubing.
(size of stone is 1″ x 2″ approx.)
I love setting sparkly things into other sparkly things.
Next, a bezel…

It’s all about alignment.
That’s my focus these days.
I think it is true that the more we “feel” in alignment,
the happier we are.
And then, we are happier because
we are aligned with what we were meant to be doing.
Easy, right?
Here is the dictionary definition of alignment that I like:
an arrangement of groups or forces in relation to one another
Leaves a lot of room for interpretation.
When I was working as an art director on photo shoots, unknowing visitors would ask me what an art director actually did.
Considering that much of my time was spent chatting with the crew, and enjoying the catered table of goodies, I could see the reason for their confusion.
My best answer was always:
“Go to a photo shoot without an art director,
and see what happens.”
It was all about keeping the groups alignment.
Keeping it all on track.
Reflecting on this past Monday nights online class with Tim McCreight, alignment is what came up for me.
I had an “Ah Ha” moment when Tim talked about how it wasn’t the designated name of the tool that mattered but what the tool could accomplish, the “essence” of the tool sort of speak, the alignment of that tool with the metal.
I’m looking at all my tools differently now.
How do they want to align with their purpose,
or like the dictionary definition:
an arrangement of groups or forces in relation to one another
hmmmmmmm

Last Thursday was the final class with my fiber group.
Beryl, aka the fiber goddess, treated us all to lunch and a play date at her charming home.
After a wonderful ladies lunch, Ms. B. showed us how to take a yard of cotton cording and wire, and wrap it with strips of material or ribbon, winding thread tightly round to hold everything in place.
That created are own personal yard long pipe cleaner of sorts.
Then we all started to embellish with adding on bits and pieces and buttons and beads and whatever….
I think mine reflects my life, twisting and turning, with treasures and shiny objects peaking up everywhere!

I’ve been asked to teach some craft classes at a local venue (more to come on that), and I am wondering what do people want.
The 3 most popular categories are:
Knitting
Jewelry Making
Scrapbooking
I would love to hear your ideas.
Maybe it’s a how-to for some supply or technique that’s too hard to figure out from written instructions, or is it more in the creative vein…
Think 2 to 3 hours, not a lot of money.
All help greatly appreciated!
Thank you all you CRAFTCAST supporters!!!
